Schist Whites
Shale soils are found in the Mosel and Douro regions, but also in the Priorat, some patches in the north of the Rhône, Côte-Rôtie, Roussillon, Loire, Galicia and Corsica. Shale soils have a metamorphic origin, i.e. they come from the transformation of sedimentary or magmatic soils as a result of high temperatures and/or pressure exerted over time, forming thin layers or sheets. Their characteristic is that they are poor soils that retain heat.
Can we find common characteristics in wines from schist regions with climates as different as the Mosel and the Douro?
That’s what we’re going to try to find out over a glass of white schist wines. Join us 😉
