Tentenublo

Roberto Oliván
Rioja

In view of the panorama of viticulturists increasingly squeezed by the large producing houses of Rioja, Roberto Olivan was clear that he should return to being a “cosechero” producer and in 2011 he started to vinify the 9 ha of his own vineyards that he cultivates in the 26 plots to the south. around the village of Viñaspre in Rioja leveresa, in an area marked by altitude and the meeting of the two Atlantic and Mediterranean climates. Roberto together with his wife Leyre produce wine from winegrowers, doing all the tasks from mass selection, to grafting in the field, to the final product that declines in blended wines like Xerico and Tentenublo as well as in blended wines in the Escondite del range Ardacho, carefully cultivated to maintain a primordial ancient vegetable heritage and diversified in terms of grape varieties (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Viura, Malvasia, Jaen) to ensure the future of the farm. The vineyards tomorrow in organic farming, aged between 15 and 100 years old, are planted in two types of marl, limestone on the slopes and more sandy in the highest part at 600 m altitude, and vinifications with spontaneous fermentations in balseiro or cement are followed by an aging in cement vats, barrels or used barrels. Roberto lives deeply rooted in his native region, marked by the wines that his family drank in the 1970s, and is endowed with a frank personality that has sparked some friction in a conservative region.
