The Meneres family has managed Quinta do Romeu for more than 4 generations, with several thousand hectares of cork trees, 120 ha of olive groves and 25 ha of vineyards, located in Jerusalem do Romeu, in Tras -Os-Montes, between Mirandela and Bragança, in an isolated area of the Douro wine region, with higher thermal amplitudes, in an airy and wild environment at 350 m altitude. He has the merit of working in organic farming since 1997, when everyone was serious about chemical products and there was no talk of the natural fashion. Today João Pedro Meneres and his son João lead the farm and have given increasing importance to wines, previously sold in bulk to large Port wine houses. The grape varieties planted are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca and Souzão with a great predominance of the Touriga Nacional variety which in this terroir develops a very accentuated floral component that recalls the expressiveness that it has in Dão. Even with more modern winemaking, the wines reveal a clearly superior freshness of their specific terroir and present a ripe fruit with a crunchy touch, with a delicate touch, achieving digestive and frank wines.
