Pedro Marques – Limo

Pedro, Sónia e Gonçalo
Lisboa

Where you can smell the sea, Limo is born, a wine from the meeting of 3 people: Gonçalo, Sónia and Pedro in 2012 made a first wine from « Mata » grapes in the Gonçalo garage, located in Serra da Vila in Torres Vedras and since then they have filed experiments to produce Limo in 2019. Wine from isolated vineyard with a mixture of French and Portuguese varieties in the village of A-dos-Ruivos, 20km from the sea, planted in 1997 by « Mata » with the help of his « compagnon de route » António Carvalho from Casal Figueira, with leftovers of the stem he had brought from the south of France. Roussane, Marsanne, Petit Manseng, Semillon, Arinto, Fernão Pires are the most abundant varieties in the composition of the plot, in a clay-limestone soil, surrounded by woods and orchard and worked in organic since 2020. In the cellar, they make a natural vinification, with just a low sulfur addition. A part of the batch is stepped by foot and pressed after 24 hours of maceration, fermenting in 600 lts « demi-muid ». The other, composed of Arinto de Torres Vedras, is made in a stainless steel vat, both aged for 20 months in fine lees.

A « Limo » that runs smoothly, with the freshness of the ocean and limestone, with a colorful and original aroma of a journey of varieties and people, in a region that continues to bubble with new small projects of artisanal wines, between sea and mountains, at a crossroads of vignerons in love with the heritage of the region’s vineyards.
