Rosi Schuster

Hannes Schuster
Burgenland

Hannes Schuster cultivates 11 hectares of vineyards between St Margarethen, Zagersdorf and Rust (on the western side of the river Neusiedl) in predominantly clay-limestone soils, although there are some more schist plots. Created in 1979 by his parents, it has been working organically since 2011, essentially the red grape varieties St Laurent, for which it is considered a reference in Austria and Blaufrankisch, in addition to a little Rotburger and the Grüner-Veltliner in white. His mother Rosi still helps him in the vineyard and he has an old collaboration that continues today with Roland Velich with whom he makes wines within the Jagini project. In fact it was Roland who introduced us to Hannes on a night where we went to dinner together and discovered Hannes and his wines. A discreet character, he has an almost childlike shyness, which contradicts his friend Roland’s theatrical and emphatic eloquence. The wines reflect their discretion and their assumed peasant origin, are harmonious, with an expression of the earth and fluidity in the mouth.
