Domaine Belliviere

Eric Nicolas
Loire

Farm with 13 hectares of vineyards in the PDO Coteaux du loir and Jasnières, north of Tours and at the limit of Chenin cultivation. Eric Nicolas previously worked in the oil industry in southeastern France, but his head was already in the vineyards and the pleasures of wine at the table. He was looking for the profession that he associates “à la douceur de vivre” that allows him to gain distance and lucidity, and he fell in love with the tranquility of the place in the most seventeen zone of cultivation of the varieties Chenin (also known under the name Pineau de Loire) and Pineau d’Aunis, and the vineyards he found between 20 and 80 years old planted in silex clay soil. After 10 years of professional retraining in which his wife Christine kept another job to support the house, they are finally able to live both on wine. The vines are harvested according to biodynamic methods and manually, natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts, the wines age between 12 and 18 months in used barrels, giving cuvées such as Les Rosiers, L’Effraie, Vieilles vignes éparses, Caligramme in white or Rouge gorge (Pineau d’Aunis) in red. In his hands, the two Pineau (from the Loire and d’Aunis) forgotten from the Côteaux du Loir became oil, which maintains a certain continuity with his previous life. Its wines present a great delicacy, somewhat discreet and rooted, with a sublime minerality.
