Noëlla Morantin

Noëlla Morantin
Loire

Originally from Brittany, Noëlla left the boat and the sea, escaped from the communications sector to immerse herself in the adventure of the land and the grape. She settled in the Loire, where she discovered her passion for wine through a viticulture teacher and winegrowers such as the Mosse in Anjou, Marc Pesnot in Muscadet and Catherine Roussel and Didier Barouillet of Clos Roche Blanche in Touraine. It was in this area between Mareuil sur Cher and Pouillé that she took root to begin her career when Catherine and Didier began a progressive retirement, leaving 8 ha on top of the 16 ha cultivated to facilitate the installation of young farmers like Noëlla. However, with Catherine and Didier’s final retirement, the different plots were redistributed between 3 producers and today Noëlla cultivates 6 ha of vineyards: in white Sauvignon blanc and recently Romorantin, which replaced the Cabernet Sauvignon that was pulled out, and in red Gamay, Côt and Cabernet Franc, to which she adds a little bought-in grapes. A dynamic and determined woman, she can count on her Belgian partner to support her in the different physical and sensory facets of this demanding one-person job. She cultivates all the vines organically and, unlike many Loire producers who bottle early, she appreciates longer aging in used barrels to refine and stabilise the wines. The use of sulphur dioxide is moderate, but she pays close attention to the expressiveness and harmony of the wines, so there is no castrating dogma, favouring precision and ageing capacity. With this producer we have forged a new, enchanted relationship with Sauvignon blanc, Gamay and Côt de Touraine.
