Domaine Les Maisons Rouges

Elisabeth et Benoît Jardin
Loire

Farm created in 1994, started with 0.5 ha, which reached 9 ha today (6 ha of Chenin, 3 ha of Pineau d’Aunis), with vines grown in 2 neighboring denominations: Jasnières (4 ha) and Coteaux du Loir ( 5ha). Elisabeth was a professor of biology, an activity he held in parallel until 2010, while Benoît was a commercial engineer until 2003. Since 2017, son Adrien and son-in-law Julien joined the production preparing for the future. The soils are clayey on a surface above a layer of chalk decomposed in the Jasnières area and have a strong proportion of silex and quartz in the Coteaux du Loir. There was a great effort of replanting within the old vines, based on a mass selection within the vines themselves. Since 2009 the farm has been certified in biodynamic agriculture. The wines are vinified without sulfur when the state of the grapes allows it and the long stages seek to enhance the minerality of the wines. Garance red comes from vines planted between 1970 and 2000 on the silex and quartz soils of the Coteaux du Loir. The aging is done in used barrels.
