In this rather arid area of the Ebro Valley, which was a land of fierce conflict during the civil war but also an inspiring and peaceful retreat for Pablo Picasso, the two brothers Francesc and Joan gave new impetus in 2009 by starting to bottle wines and deepening the natural approach inherited from this old family tradition of farmers since the early 19th century. Based in Corbera d’Ebre in the Terra Alta designation of origin, these farmer-grafters cultivate vines among olive trees, with the Vernatxa (white Garnacha), Garnacha gris, Garnacha, Garnacha peluda, Garnacha Tintorera and Carinena grape varieties. The soils are diverse, with alluvial deposits, limestone and sand, notably the Terra de Panal soil, which is of sandy-limestone origin from fossils, giving a fine sandy loam soil with crushed limestone.
