BAROLO & BARBARESCO TASTING

We’re celebrating 10 years since Silvia and Nadir returned from a year in Barolo and we’re going to do a tasting around this region of Nobiltà, as master Beppe Rinaldi would say. To better understand the region, we’ll include 2 Barbaresco wines and 7 Barolo wines, from various producers we represent but also with whom we’ve worked in the vineyard and cellar to learn the secret of these great wines, but above all the soul of the Langhetti.

Os Goliardos Garage, Rua General Taborda 91, Campolide
Tasting with booked seats, 50€/person paid by mbway or transfer
Mandatory reservation to golias.goliardos@gmail.com
In the event of cancellation, please notify us 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, the amount cannot be refunded

Barolo is considered the wine of kings and the king of wines. But it and Barbaresco only appeared in the second half of the 19th century, and have only existed in their modern version since the late 1970s. The first dry wine made from the Nebbiolo grape variety was made on the initiative of Camillo Cavour, the father of the Italian unit, who hired a French oenologist, Louis Oudart, for his Grinzane estate near Alba around 1850, in order to produce a dry, aged red wine. Taking advantage of his relations with the House of Savoy and the nobility of the Turin court, he knew how to make his wine famous and by the end of the century it had earned a place in the hierarchy of Italian wines, just like Barbaresco, which competed with it thanks to the work of Domizio Cavazza.

In the Barolo Denomination, we can distinguish 2 sub-zones:
The area around the villages of Barolo, La Morra, is more westerly, with finer soils of clay-limestone sediments, which produce more perfumed, more subtle, less powerful wines.
The easternmost area of Serralunga d’Alba and Castiglione Falletto, with its poorer sandstone and limestone soils, produce more fleshy and tannic wines, especially on the limestone slopes of Serralunga.
Fortunately, the fame is justified, both for the wines and for the magnificence of the landscape. As you get closer to Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra, it seems as if there’s more room in your throat to quench your thirst. The best place to understand the Langa is on the descent between La Morra and Barolo, in a series of tight bends, where suddenly Barolo appears and its castle in the background, as if it were a treasure hidden in its nest. On an autumn afternoon with the vines painted purple-yellow or on a sunny winter’s day with a sky radiant with blue and the snow all around in the Alpine arc in the distance, you’ll be stunned by the magic of the scenery.
