The arrival of Quinta do Olival da Murta in the Os Goliardos portfolio is the blossoming of a long-standing love story. It began ten years ago, when Joana Vivas attended one of Os Goliardos’ wine courses, and now comes into full bloom with the estate’s official induction into the family.
This estate could inspire a literary saga spanning several volumes. So many generations have passed through these vineyards, building a remarkable legacy in a region better known for large-scale production. Today, the property comprises 13 contiguous hectares of vineyards in the beautiful Cadaval area, where the Montejunto hills and the Atlantic Ocean together shape the estate’s distinctive climate. Muscat, Fernão Pires and Arinto for the whites, together with Tinta Roriz, Castelão and a little Syrah for the reds, form the inheritance passed on to the new generation—who, with the knowledge they now have of their vineyards and of winemaking, might not have chosen exactly the same grape varieties themselves.
The Vivas cousins, coming from very different professional backgrounds, have returned to the estate to put their hands back into the soil and write the next chapter of its story: converting the vineyards to organic farming, embracing a r
egenerative approach to soil life, pruning with greater thought and precision, and crafting wines that preserve the true character of the grapes. Today, their wines display an effortless drinkability and graceful fluidity that reflect the warmth, generosity and sensitivity of this remarkable family.
